Water main vault  can create unseen problems

 

Often what looks like a simple lift is anything but. The photo above is a good example of what we are going to talk about today.

Concrete  vaults are generally very stable, almost never settling, the slabs laid over the vault however often crack because they are not fully supported like the rest of the surrounding concrete. In some cases, like the one above, concrete can lift off the vault, when this happens the best solution is to re-pour the concrete slab and be done with it.

While it is possible to bring all the surrounding concrete into alignment we have to ask ourselves if this is the best solution for the property owner? In some cases the answer is a resounding “no”
