Concrete Raising for Soil Concrete Stabilization

As autumn settles in, so can the results of the summer season’s storms and rain. Storm water that battered your property and seemed to depart may not have. It can be causing voids beneath the concrete around your home, even in the foundation. This can have expensive and hazardous results, including uneven walks, steps, and porches; soil loss; and even considerable damage to your foundation. These significant problems can be repaired with concrete raising for soil cement stabilization.

How Sunken Soil Happens

Whether your home is old, relatively new, or brand new, it should have been constructed to direct accumulating water away from its foundation. And even if it was, eroded soil, wear and tear, structural inconsistencies, and even construction errors can cause changes just significant enough that water has begun accumulating where you don’t want it to. Even minor things like insufficiently compacted soil or poorly maintained gutters have the potential to result in major problems eventually. Soil erosion can result in settling concrete and even impact the integrity of your foundation. But sinking or sunken soil can be repaired with soil cement stabilization. And one of the most effective methods of soil cement stabilization is a process called concrete raising or slab jacking.

Soil Cement Stabilization

Concrete, or cement, has a strength of about three thousand pounds per square inch, as an average. It can reach well beyond that average, being as strong as twenty thousand pounds per square inch. Concrete raising provides soil cement stabilization to the soil around a property to counter further erosion from water accumulation. In the soil cement stabilization process, a slurry is injected into the ground where hollows or voids have been detected. This slurry is most typically comprised of a mixture of water and cement, but soil stabilization can use foam and polyurethane as well. The slurry bonds with the soil surrounding a void or hollow and stabilizes the affected area. Once the slurry binds and dries, your property is secure and your foundation safe from the effects of eroding soil. Concrete raising has been used to reverse sunken soil issues for nearly a hundred years and the process is also efficient for lifting sinking walkways, sidewalks, driveways, porches, decks, and other parts of your property that can be impacted by eroding soil.

What You Can Do to Prevent Further Soil Sinking

Keeping water draining away from your home is imperative. Be sure your gutters are well-maintained and directing water well away from the structures on your property. Having your property checked for potential problem areas, such as faulty grades or vulnerable soil, is important as well.

Soil Cement Stabilization for Your Home

Concrete services like slab jacking cost as little as a few dollars per square foot, depending on the property and its condition. It can be a very cost-effective solution to a problem that can get devastatingly out of hand, even when there is a sizable affected area. Soil concrete stabilization is effective and durable.

Of course, there can be additional concrete services needed, such as concrete crack repair, concrete leveling, and even filling voids in concrete. A qualified concrete service professional will guide you through what you need to keep your property safe.
